Building Hope Through Home Ownership.

ABOUT US

Empowering Communities, Building Hope.

SAW Habitat for Humanity is committed to fostering community strength and resilience through the power of homeownership.

OUR MISSION

Building and restoring homes, lives and communities through faith.

We strive to create homes and environments where families can thrive, feel safe, and build a promising future. By supporting SAW Habitat, you contribute to foundational change that offers generational benefits.

“It is hard to argue that housing is not a fundamental human need. Decent, affordable housing should be a basic right for everybody in this country. The reason is simple: without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.”

Matthew Desmond, Princeton University Professor, Pulitzer Prize Winner, MacArthur "Genius," and Habitat for Humanity Volunteer

Financial Stability

U.S. homeowners have 400% higher net wealth than renters, with home equity making up 34.5% of household wealth. Each year of homeownership adds $9,500 in net wealth on average.

Environment

Weatherizing older single-family homes reduces energy costs for low-income households by 12.4% in the first year. These households spend 7.2% of their income on energy, compared to 2.3% for others.

Health

Reducing housing costs for cost-burdened households frees up resources for food and healthcare. It also limits overcrowding, lowering the spread of respiratory diseases in vulnerable communities.

Educational Outcomes

Low-income homeowners’ children are 11% more likely to graduate high school and 4.5% more likely to complete college. A $10,000 increase in housing wealth raises college attendance by 14%.

Civic & Social Engagement

Homeowners are more likely to vote and join civic groups than renters, especially in disadvantaged areas. They are 1.3 times more likely to engage in neighborhood associations, building stronger communities.
