The Power of Family Support

Every Habitat homeowner has a unique story, and for Bekky, her path to homeownership has been shaped by resilience and the steady support of her sister, Kelli. Support from family and close friends can give someone the courage to take the next step, and Kelli’s encouragement has been a major part of Bekky’s story.

The Bond of Sisters

Bekky and Kelli describe themselves as more than sisters. After their mother passed away, Becky stepped into a caretaking role for Kelli, who was just sixteen at the time.

“We hung out together. She was more like my best friend than my sister,” Kelli shared. That connection only grew stronger as life brought challenges neither of them expected.

Resilience Through Hardships

Bekky has bravely walked through breast cancer, a divorce, and the process of rebuilding her life. Kelli watched her face each challenge with determination. That strength is part of why Kelli believes Bekky deserves this home. It represents stability after years of uncertainty and a chance to start fresh.

“Bekky is resilient. She keeps going,” Kelli said.

Getting Ready for a New Beginning

As the move from Waynesboro to Staunton approaches, Kelli is preparing to help Bekky settle in. When moving day arrives, she’ll be there waiting for the movers, making sure each box finds the right room and helping relieve as much stress as possible.

“I’m excited for her,” Kelli said. “She’s finally getting to choose her own colors, her own cabinets, her own space. I can’t wait to see what she does with it.”p closer.” Leaving behind familiar neighbors and routines won’t be easy. “It’s going to be strange,” Becky said. “But I’m ready for a new start.”

What Support Can Make Possible

Bekky has put in countless hours of volunteering and hard work to reach this moment. As she prepares to move into her new home in Staunton, she isn’t doing it alone. Bekky is stepping into a future filled with stability and a strong sense of belonging, made possible through hard work, community, and the steady support of her sister.
