Who qualifies?
To qualify, applicants must meet five criteria:

1. They must reside or work in SAW Habitat for Humanity’s service area for at least 1 year.
2. They must have enough income to support the monthly mortgage payment.
3. They must currently live in sub-standard housing conditions (examples include defective dwelling, overcrowding, rent more than 30% of income, poor living environment, etc.).
4. They must agree to “partner” with Habitat for Humanity in helping to build their house and houses built for other families.  This partnership will require each household adult (18 years or older) to contribute a minimum of 200 “sweat-equity” hours.
5. Their debt and income must be such that they can have all delinquent debt (past due debts, charge offs and unsatisfied judgments) satisfied before purchasing and moving into their home. ​​

• When the application process is open, individuals are given an application to determine initial qualification in the program. (Please see income limits in chart below)

AFTER completing the application and submitting ALL required documentation:

• Eligible candidates are asked to meet with our Programs Director to review their application and documentation.
• Applications are thoroughly reviewed and undergo credit bureau as well as criminal backgrounds checks.  Also, employment and landlord verification is confirmed as well as an in-home visit. Eligible applications are then sent to Family Selection Committee for consideration.
• Family Selection Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.
• Board of Directors accepts or rejects the application.

The Habitat Homebuyer Program is established for community members who make enough to support a mortgage (along with normal living expenses), but who struggle to obtain conventional commercial financing. These limits are particular to each Habitat service area, and are tied to the number of people in the household applying for the program.
​For our community, this means household income must fall into the following brackets:
